GEORGE TENNIS NEWS - Damien Nezar, a Grade 10 learner at York High, has received a wildcard invitation into the $15 000 ITF Men's Futures Tour event to be held in Vero Beach, Florida.
He departed for the USA on Monday and will return on 30 May.
Damien will be one of the youngest competing there in a strong international field. Following this event Damien will be competing in three ITF u.18 events and possibly also one in Costa Rica at the end of his tour but this has still to be confirmed.
The USA tour will last six weeks and all four events will take place in Florida.
Jan Combrink, vice chairman of the George Tennis Club, said Damien, who is also a member of the George Tennis Club, is proof that the club's sponsored membership for worthy juniors is paying off. The club currently has 15 juniors who are making great strides in local club league competitions.
Damien has recently won the u.16 title in the boys final at the Growthpoint Junior Nationals in Bloemfontein after beating Luc Koenig 6-2,6-2. He also reached the doubles finals with Liander Pietersen, also a member of the George Tennis Club, but the match rained out.
At the Growthpoint Super 8 Tournament in Bloemfontein earlier in March this year Damien beat Dylan Salton 6-2,6-1 in the boys u.16 final.
