RUGBY NEWS - Sanzaar took the extraordinary step on Monday to admit there were “major concerns” with the implementation of the Television Match Official (TMO) protocols during this year’s Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.
After a series of disputed calls and controversy during the tournament, Sanzaar has particularly instituted a review of the TMO protocols at the end of this year’s tournament in order to try and ensure the process runs smoother in the 2019 tournament.
Sanzaar reiterated that this is part of the normal review of its competitions at the end of each tournament.
“At the conclusion of each season SANZAAR conducts a thorough review of its competitions and looks to continually enhance and improve the product for its stakeholders,” a statement said.
“The past four weeks of international and domestic rugby have highlighted some challenges within the match officiating processes in the game of rugby, in particular the events over the past two weeks of super rugby.”
Sanzaar CEO Andy Marinos said the competition needed better consistency in the TMO decisions.
