Having lead just 10-9 at the break the Cheetahs scored three second half tries by flyhalf Fred Zeilinga, wing Sergeal Petersen and flank Gerhard Olivier while managing to keep Griquas try-less to bounce back after losing their opening two matches of the season to the Blue Bulls and Western Province.
Zeilinga scored his try seven minutes after the break to increase the lead to 17-9, Petersen’s try in the 50nd minute widened the gap to 24-9 while the bonuspoint try by Olivier created a 22-point lead of 31-9 by the 52nd minute and strangely the scorers weren’t bothered for the last 28 minutes of the game.
Griquas tasted first blood when Cheetahs loosehead Caylib Oosthuizen was penalised at scrum-time and Griquas leftwing Ntabeni Dukisa made no mistake with the penalty to put the hometeam up 3-0 after 11 minutes.
