SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The SWD Equestrian Schools League prize-giving took place recently to reward the achievements of our local school horse riders. The award ceremony was followed by the league’s first AGM where a new SWD Sanesa committee was chosen for 2012. They are Annelise Naude (Chair), Mark de Villiers (Vice Chair), Daleen Ludick (Secretary), Natalie Callaghan (Treasurer), Fiona de Villiers, Angelica von Mellenthin and Tanya Ludick.

The prize-giving and AGM were well attended by parents and riders from the SWD region. The winners of the different categories of the Schools League were those who had accumulated the most points during the 2011 season.

High Schools
Rider of the year: Bianca van Huysteen (Outeniqua High);
Dressage Rider of the year: Gaby Berman (1st), Bianca van Huysteen (2nd) and Candice Ludick (3rd);
Equitation Rider of the year: Leriska Naude (1st), Joshua Nel (2nd), Danè du Preez (3rd);
Showing Rider of the Year: Bianca van Huysteen (1st), Alexia Gouws (2nd), Gaby Berman (3rd);
Show Jumping Rider of the Year: Gaby Berman (1st), Rene Uys (2nd), Danè du Preez (3rd); Newcomer of the Year: Luke Mincione.
Winning High School for 2011: Outeniqua High School.

Rider of the Year: Isabella Fulford (Oakhill Primary);
Dressage Rider of the Year: Isabella Fulford (1st), Mia Rebula (2nd);
Equitation Riders of the Year: Caitlin Quinlan, Mia Rebula and Julia Lampbrecht;
Showing Riders of the Year: Julia Lampbrecht, Isabella Fulford and Caitlin Bodley;
Show Jumping Riders of the Year: Isabella Fulford and Caitlin Quinlan;
Newcomer of the Year: Carah Callaghan (1st), Aimee Plateel (2nd), Ciska de Beer (3rd).
Winning Primary School: Oakhill Primary School.

These riders competed in two qualifiers held in the SWD region and the regional final held in Swellendam.
The SWD Sanesa committe thanks all the riders, parents and sponsors, including Richoh Garden Route for their trophies and certificates and G Photography, for their support during the past year.
