GEORGE NEWS - The George Local Netball League players took to the netball court again on Saturday 19 March at the Imizamo Yethu Secondary School sports field.
The league has had a positive impact, attracting many netball players and supporters in a short time.
Some of the netball teams were noticeably better prepared for their league games, displaying good technique. Raising Stars Netball Club defeated Sunrise Netball Club with a score of 20-15.
Raising Stars players Similise Solani and Avuyile Femele were on fire, with their height giving them the advantage to shoot most points for their side, while their teammate Sisipho James was controlling the game.
Asive Pere of Sunrise was working overtime defending against the strong attacks from Raising Stars players.
Ntombi Mahlasela of Sunrise tried hard to get more points for her side but the team could not catch up with their opponents.
An avid supporter said it is great to see the youth involvement in sport, not only in netball but in other sporting codes as well.
"Soccer and netball are the front-runners in Thembalethu in terms of support base. Now it's high time for the investors and the stakeholders to support them in driving and hosting big tournaments, as we all know that sport is one of the vehicles that can keep away our kids from anti-social activities such as drugs and alcohol abuse."
