ATHLETICS NEWS - Eden Triathlon kicked off the new season last Sunday, 29 October, with their first league meeting in Great Brak River.
Despite late night rugby celebrations and unpredictable weather, almost 80 dedicated athletes showed up to gauge their fitness level at the beginning of the season and for the upcoming 70.3 Ironman in November.
Spring tide, a slight breeze and even a few drops of rain set the stage for exiting racing. Athletes competed in three distances – Super Sprint, Sprint and Standard.
The Super Sprint is raced over a 400m swim, 10km cycle and 2,5km run and here Llewelyn Viljoen and Annabelle McEwan took the win. Josua Vorster and Karli Lötter crossed the finish line first after completing the 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run of the Sprint race. The 1,5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run of the Standard race was won by Christoff Louw and Melissa van Rensburg. Visit Eden Triathlon's website for detailed results: edentriathlon.co.za.
The next event will take place at the same venue on 3 December. Details will be posted on the Eden Triathlon website and Facebook page. For more information, contact Corné Hattingh on 083 289 2544.
