MOTORSPORT NEWS - The first much-anticipated general directors' meeting of the Mossdustria Motorsport non-profit company was facilitated by the Mossel Bay Municipality this week.
Following many years of discussion and negotiation regarding Mossdustria's suitability to become a motorsport mecca in the Southern Cape, there is now brand-new im-petus in terms of making this long- cherished dream a reality.
A Memorandum of Incorporation, which sets out the rights, duties and responsibilities of shareholders, directors and other persons involved in the non-profit company, has been drawn up.
"We believe in effective partner-ships and we are looking forward to the results in this newly formed partnership," says mayor Dirk Kotzé. He added that a similar NPC has been formed in the successful establishment of the Joint Operation Centre (JOC).
The motorsport area as envisaged will cater for several motorsport disciplines including drag racing, karting, oval track racing, drifting, spinning and gymkhana events. The development of several plots in Mossdustria will enhance economic growth and provide impetus for job creation.
Public tender
The area will be developed in phases. During the first phase, the erven in the industrial zone will be surveyed, subdivided, and provided with municipal services at the municipality's cost. These plots will be sold by public tender.
Thereafter, the remaining plots in the area will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Revenue generated from the sale of these plots will be allocated to a separate Capital Replacement Reserve (CRR), which will be used exclusively for the further development of the motorsport opportunities in the area.
The environmental impact assessment for the area as well as the town planning component is envisaged to be completed towards the end of 2023, whereafter development will ensue.
"We are privileged to have people of this calibre, being stalwarts in the motorsport industry, take an interest in our town and the development of this partnership. We are particularly excited about this development as a legacy project and give our full cooperation to take it forward," added the Municipal Manager, Colin Puren.
