GEORGE - The first Gestetner Action Bowls tournament for businesses this year was launched last Thursday afternoon at George Bowling Club with great surprises on the leader board after the first round.
The one team that had been participating ever since the beginning of the league a few years ago, and which never really outperformed the other contestants, now suddenly sits right at the top. Millers Incorporated seems to have done their homework and are set to defend their early image of excellence.
A single shot behind them is another legal company, Lombard's, also very eager to call the tune in this new series.
It was very heartening to note that the sales of "Boeries" was so successful that the "Sold Out" sign had to be put up eventually. Funds raised by the Nomad bowlers in this way will be directed to hospice support in George.
The sponsoring company, Gestetner, is of opinion that the race is not won in the first round and that their fat lady will be called to the stage very soon for a performance that will shatter the ears of any other contender for the laurels. But there are many enthusiastic onlookers in the wings who will be supporting 24 teams over the next few weeks and anything is possible in a flighty game such as lawn bowls.
