GEORGE NEWS - A young Eden chess player, Kayleigh Cornforth, took part in the Africa Schools Individual Chess Championships 2001 in Nairobi, Kenya from 13 to 19 December 2021.
Kayleigh, who competes as an u.9, was a member of the SA Schools chess team. Her dad Rodney (inset), who accompanied her to Kenya, mentioned that it was really a great experience for her and the venue and people were great.
At first Kayleigh battled to settle in as she was overwhelmed by the new experience, but she managed to win three out of her nine games, one of which lasted over three hours.
During this tournament she learned to use her time, picked up a lot of experience and came out positive. Eden Chess is very proud of Kayleigh and wishes her good luck for the tournaments in 2022.
