GEORGE NEWS - On Sunday 2 October, the George Chess Club in conjunction with the Garden Route Mall hosted a fun event where the public was invited to play chess against the club members.
It was a brilliant success. Players varied from five-year-olds such as Finley van der Merwe and Loannes Marner, to people in their 70s.
When entering, each member of the public was given a number, which was put into a glass bowl. With every game won, the player's number was put into the bowl again. In the end, a lucky draw took place where players could win prizes sponsored by several shops in the mall.

"Events like this assist the club in reaching its main goal: to promote and develop chess among everyone in a positive and enjoyable way," said club chairman Lionel Campbell.
