Played along the skins format with one or two added conditions, this event has drawn a full complement of 24 top teams from most of the clubs in the Southern Cape.
The tournament is to be played over 12 months with a round being played on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Each round is an event of its own with generous prizes from the sponsor, Black & White Whisky, but a leader board is kept running through the year until the final round will produce the ultimate winners of this league.
The event is the brain child of organiser Jack Nel of the George Bowling Club, a man known for his innovative ideas for the enjoyment of bowls among the players.
When he sounded out a number of the top bowlers in the district about this concept, he received a most enthusiastic response from all.
The first round, played last week, proved to be a wonderful afternoon of great bowls and much enjoyment.
Round One winners were the George Bowling Club team of Alan Dissel, John Burbidge, Tony Mason and Theo Liebenberg who edged out the Knysna team of IO January, Rod Myburgh, Fergie Ferguson and Tony Brady by a mere 1 point.
In addition to the top two prizes, several drawn prizes ensured that a number of less successful bowlers on the day went home with a smile on their faces and a bottle in their bags.
