GEORGE BOWLING NEWS - George Bowling Club celebrated International Women's Day with a tournament for ladies presented under the name of Showtime Ladies Tournament.
And was it not an extravaganza of showtime!
The usual white, cream and club colours were left hanging in the wardrobe while all the participants pitched up and played in all sorts of fancy dress, ranging from clowns and popcorn vendors to formally dressed gentlemen and butlers, much to the delight of everybody present.
There were many prizes to be won, all liberally donated by several businesses in George, ranging from food suppliers and restaurants to beauty salons and hardware stores. The best dressed prize was won by Christine Vermaak, dressed as a popcorn vendor, with tray and all, while the second prize was awarded to Celest Leach, dressed as "Liewe Heksie."
The 66 participants from nine surrounding clubs were ably and efficiently treated and served by several of the male members of the club, who not only prepared the meals and other eats, but also attended to all the serving and other catering related tasks.

Play consisted of three games of only 12 ends, thus allowing ample time for the usual and inevitable chatting and gossiping. Apart from George there were also players from Outeniqua, Vista, Stilbaai, Leasure Isle, Sedgefield, Knysna, Mossel Bay and Hartenbos.
The ultimate winning players with the most points carried over from each of the 3 games with different players in each team, were as skip Christine Vermaak, second Adri Theunissen and lead Kathy Carey.
