CHESS NEWS - The annual Eden Open Chess Tournament took place on Saturday 23 August, drawing 66 participants to the picturesque town of Oudtshoorn.
This year's event featured a dedicated section for women, adding a new dimension to the competition.
Although the number of female participants was modest, those who competed enjoyed the experience immensely.
The tournament was divided into several sections: championship, advanced, intermediate, women and age groups U10, U12 and U14.
Each section saw fierce competition, and the Eden management extends heartfelt thanks to every chess player who took part.
The Eden Open Chess Tournament continues to be a highlight in the local chess calendar, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and competition among players of all ages and skill levels.
Another highlight was that Eden, for the first time, had the privilege of using an electronic chess board on board 1, allowing the game to be broadcast live.
