GEORGE NEWS - There was a great excitement at the Thembalethu sports facility on Monday morning, 1 July as the Abo Gogo group practised their moves for the upcoming Winter Games and Golden Games.
The team facilitator/coach, Mihlali Peterson, took the excited grey-heads through their steps during their weekly meeting.
The Abo Gogo programme was initialised by the Department of Social Development in May 2021, and is run in partnership with Meals and Wheels community service and Lukhanyiso SDA Meals and Wheels in Thembalethu. Its aim is to encourage inactive 60-plussers to get moving and stay healthy.
According to Peterson, the programme, which started with 10 members, has grown to include 36 members in the three years since its inception.
The programme focuses on a healthy lifestyle, including group discussions where participants share some life experience and ideas for the way forward in their daily lives. The group meets from 10:00 to 12:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays.
