GEORGE NEWS - The young George-based CrossFitter Kaiden Steyn (17) proved himself to be the second fittest teen in the world at the Teenage CrossFit Games (TCFG) held from 30 August to 1 September in Michigan, America.
"I have been training for two years to get to the Teen CrossFit Games, doing three to four hour sessions per day for five days a week," says Steyn.
"I am very pleased with my result. My goal was a spot on the podium and that is what I got. Better yet, the point difference between me and third place was a lot."
The first placed competitor earned 642 points, Steyn got 618 and the third place had 523 points, with the rest of the competitors on less than 470 points.
This was Steyn's second time competing in the TCFGs. The previous time was in 2022, when he finished 4th. "I loved being there.
Because I knew what to expect I was ready and prepared for the competition and the atmosphere. The competitors were nice and fun people to be around," he says.
He returned to South Africa on 7 September and will take a month to rest before starting training again.
His next goal is to compete in the men's open division to qualify for the senior CrossFit Games. He is, however, no stranger to competing against senior men.
Earlier in 2024 he impressively placed 11th in the men's elite senior division of the Rebel Renegade Games, which was the official semi-final in Africa for the 2024 CrossFit Games.
"For the moment I'll do fun local competitions, but the main goal is the CrossFit Games which is the biggest and most important competition in CrossFit," he says.
Kayden Steyn (far left) placed second at the Teenage CrossFit Games in America and now has his sights on the men’s open division.
