The time and effort being put into the development of junior golf is beginning to show results and the number of entries in the A-division (handicap 0-9) is getting so big that this was most probably the last year that D-division players (handicap 25-30) were included in the tournament.
A total of 136 girls competed over the 3 days of which 60 were in the A-division - 4 from the Southern Cape.
The field included 5 of the top 10 amateur ranked players in SA which is an indication of the strength of junior girls' golf.
Southern Cape's Carina Pienaar from Kingswood Golf Club, was 9th on gross after the second round, but shot a 84 on the last day to finish 18th on gross (out of 60 players) with a score of 243 (81, 78, 84).
The winner of the A-division and the 2012 Champion was Michaela Fletcher from Maritzburg Golf Club with scores of 69, 74 and 77.
Sune Blankenberg, from Heidelberg, ensured that Southern Cape did not come home empty handed by winning the best D-division Stableford prize for the Monday's round with 34 points.
