GOLF NEWS - George Golf Course
The historic George Golf Course, one of the finest public courses in South Africa, is very popular with the local golfers. Situated in CJ Langenhoven Street next to Outeniqua Park stadium, it boasts a beautifully manicured 72-par, 18-hole course with bent greens. It welcomes visitors every day except Saturday and Wednesday afternoons. Apart from its bar and lounge facilities - all with a spectacular view over the course - the golf club also offers a self-catering cottage that sleeps eight and is available to golfers and non-golfers alike.
Oubaai Golf Course
This signature course designed by Ernie Els has to be one of the most scenic courses in the world, flanked by the Indian Ocean on one side and the Outeniqua Mountains on the other. The 18-hole, 72-par course is about 10km from George Airport near Herold's Bay and is open to the public. As a coastal course, it offers golfers generous fairways that are well bunkered. Oubaai also has a beautiful clubhouse with its own pro shop, locker rooms, bar and restaurant.
Kingswood Golf Estate
Nestled between Fancourt's The Links and the George Golf Course lies another great course. The 72-par course, designed by Danie Obermeyer, offers magnificent views of the Outeniqua Mountains. Each of the 18 holes offers unique playing characteristics. The clubhouse facilities include a fully licensed restaurant and bar, well-stocked pro shop, cloakroom and shower.
Fancourt
Fancourt is South Africa's premier golfing destination. It boasts three top-class golf courses, all designed by the legendary Gary Player. The Links, Outeniqua and Montagu consistently feature among the country's 20 finest courses in the South African edition of Golf Digest. The Links course is reserved for members and hotel guests only, but the other two are open for the public to enjoy.
Short courses
Three Chameleons
Three Chameleons, which is now under new ownership, offers a unique opportunity for beginners and advanced players to enjoy a quick game, to meet new people and have a great time. The elevated clubhouse serves breakfasts, light meals, the best chilli poppers and wood-fired pizza. The well-stocked bar boasts local beer on tap, a great wine selection and large-screen TVs.
Glenwood
This short course is rated as one of the best short courses in South Africa. It is a 9-hole pitch & putt course (mashy course) with a par 72 and a length of 3 001m. Due to different boxes for teeing off at each hole, the course can also be played as an 18-hole course. It's relatively short, with fairways measuring between 90m and 292m.
