GEORGE NEWS - A golf day will be held this coming Saturday, 23 July, at Kingswood in aid of 10-year-old Marinel Barnardo from Sedgefield.
Prizes are needed for an auction on the day and Marinel's parents, Anél and Marius, are asking for sponsors for prizes.
Marinel had a severe eye infection that was misdiagnosed by a GP when she was five years old. She then lost sight in her left eye and needs a cornea transplant.
"To get to that point of the transplant, we need to see a cornea surgeon, Dr Michael Attenborough, in Wynberg, Cape Town," says Anél.
"We have already been to numerous specialists and doctors close to us, but none of them were able to assist her. We have faith that Dr Attenborough will be the answer to all our prayers and efforts to help our beautiful daughter.
"She is a vibrant, full-of-life young girl with her whole life ahead of her. She loves dancing, acrobatics, hip-hop, netball, hockey, horse riding and spending time with those she loves."
Marinel has an appointment with Dr Attenborough on 9 November, but the family does not have medical aid and will need funds for expenses such as accommodation, fuel, doctors, specialists, tests and hospital bills. The family has asked for support of the golf day and sponsors for prizes.
Bookings for the golf day can be made on 086 172 7170. Proceeds of the day will go towards Marinel's fund.
