GEORGE FOOTBALL NEWS - The reigning Geolfa champions, Vista Football Club, sank Burning Fire 2-1 in a tough Geolfa League game on Saturday afternoon, 1 April at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
Both teams played enterprising football that focused on the attack.
The goals were scored by twin brothers Vuyisanani and Siviwe Liwani for Vista and Vuyisanani Sajini for Burning Fire.
Burning Fire started out playing the ball on the ground. They received the first free kick, but their shot was blocked by a Vista defender. Vista countered with an attack on the right side of the field but their shot went wide. A corner kick by Vista was well blocked by a Burning Fire defender, but they did manage to open the score board when Vuyisanani Liwani scored a goal with an impressive long-range free kick from the right side of the field.
Siphenkosi Kanafana and Sibusiso Ntuli of Burning Fire each had a shot at the goal. The latter went straight to Vista FC goalkeeper Athule Ncakwebe, forcing a corner kick for Burning Fire. However, their attempt to score failed and the first half ended with Vista leading 1-0.
The second half saw some fast-paced play from both teams. Burning Fire failed to score their first goal when they were given a set piece outside the box after a dangerous tackle from a Vista defender.
It was only in the last minutes of the game that a strong attack from the Burning Fire flanks culminated in an equalising goal by Vuyisanani Sajini. Sajini missed another golden opportunity when he failed to outsmart Vista goalkeeper Athule Ncakwebe. The second Liwani twin, Siviwe, clinched the victory for Vista with a world-class goal after playing a long-range shot from the left side of the field just before the 90 minute whistle.
