GEORGE FOOTBALL NEWS - Vista Football Club from Thembalethu were crowned champions of the Geolfa Chairman's Tournament after defeating All Stars 3-1 in the final at the Lawaaikamp Stadium last weekend.
The four goals were scored by Mawanda "General" Msilelwa and Ayabulela Mqonci (2 goals) while Vista defender Bandile Mabhunga netted an own goal for All Stars.
Only domestic league teams participated in the Chairmans Tournament, which kicked off on Friday 26 February. In the first semi-final, Vista walloped Raul Stars 1(5)-1(3) on penalty shoot-outs while second semi-finalists All Stars defeated Black Cats 1(4)-1(2) on penalty shoot-outs.
The final got off to a good start with both teams playing entertaining football. All Stars had the first opportunity of the game, but Shane Booysen's powerful strike was well saved by Vista's goalkeeper.
Both teams were creating scoring chances from the centre of the field.
Mawanda "General" Msilelwa of Vista scored the first goal to make it 1-0. Ayabulela Mqonci of Vista scored the second goal with a powerful header, making it 2-0.
In the second half, All Stars scored the first goal to make it 2-1 after a dangerous attack from the centre of the field which forced Vistas defender Bandile Mabhunga to score an own goal. Vista retaliated by launching a dangerous attack and Ayabulela Mqonci scored the third goal to make it 3-1.
All Stars tried to come back in the dying moments of the game, but it was too late.
