FOOTBALL NEWS - Safa under 15 league - Five young footballers from George were selected to represent the Eden region at the Safa (South African Football Association) u.15 League games in Johannesburg in October.
These footballers impressed regional selectors during an FNB Football First u.15 tournament held at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday 21 July.
The George players who were selected are: Zukhanye Mkefa (central defender) of Raul Stars FC, Mthembu Mandla (defender) of Black Cats FC, Henristo Kawaya (middle fielder) of Transition football, Benedict Hoffman (middle fielder) of Transition football and Wanda Mkhosi (middle fielder) of Black Cats FC.
The following players were also selected from across the Southern Cape:
Ndiyavuka Stootman (goalkeeper) from Plettenberg Bay, Zetan Hartzenberg (defender) from Plettenberg Bay, Rushaan Kamineth (defender) from Knysna, Chantel Leonardo (defender) from Plettenberg Bay, Thimna Mbalula (defender) from Mossel Bay, Siphamandla Matha (middle fielder) from Knysna, Siphamandla Mpotulo (middle fielder) from Knysna, Lina Mbangi (middle fielder) from Knysna, Lukhangele Twala (middle fielder) from Mossel Bay, Sevetsi Katlego (middle fielder) from Mossel Bay, Antonio van Wyk (middle fielder) from Hessequa, Lithalethu Bavu (striker) from Knysna, Wandisile Fanisi (striker) from Plettenberg Bay and Charlton van Hansen (striker) from Oudtshoorn.
Leaders FC to host legends tournament
The Leaders Football Club will host a soccer legends tournament at Lawaaikamp over the long weekend of Friday 21 September. Teams that will take part are Rangers FC from Port Elizabeth, Shamrock FC from Port Elizabeth, Stephanians FC from Cape Town, Kasi Legends FC from Knysna, Park United from Port Elizabeth, VW Masters FC from Uitenhage, Callies from Port Elizabeth and Dalians from Johannesburg.
The prizes are as follows:
- First prize: R6 000
- Second prize: R2 500
- Third prize: two soccer balls.
