FOOTBALL NEWS - The Thembalethu High School u.15 soccer team beat Imizamo Yethu High's u.15 team 1-0 in a George Schools Football League fixture at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Thursday 4 May.
A single goal by Lonwabo Chotho for Thembalethu was enough to nail their victory in a game that was pretty evenly matched.
The George Schools Football League is one of the official junior leagues at school development level, with six teams participating, namely Thembalethu High, Jonga High, Eden Technical School, Imizamo Yethu Secondary, Olympia High and Heatherlands High.
Thembalethu High is currently in the top position on the log after two victories that earned them six points. Imizamo Yethu is in fourth position with one point.
Despite an energetic start for Imizamo Yethu, they failed to pull through when they received the first corner kick of the game. The Themba boys, after having no success in a set piece, recovered to launch a strong attack from the centre of the field resulting in Choto's goal.

Just before half time, Imizamo Yethu had Thembalethu High scrambling to defend their territory when they launched a strong offensive from their wings, but the Themba side managed to fend it off.
The first half ended with Thembalethu High leading 1-0. The second half saw both teams striving to create better chances inside the box.
Anele Ntloko of Imizamo Yethu delivered a powerful strike inside the box but it was cleared away by a Thembalethu High defender.
The Thembalethu boys made a determined attack in the last minutes of the game, but Imizamo Yethu goalkeeper Linamandla Mtonga was equal to the task and fended it off beautifully.
The game ended 1-0 with Thembalethu High collecting maximum points with their victory.
