Southern Academy levels with Vultures

GEORGE NEWS - Southern Academy and George Vultures played a 2-2 draw in a thrilling Development League fixture on Sunday afternoon, 26 May at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.

In a game where the second half saw most of the action, Nkosiphendule Faku and Oyama Bontiya scored the goals for George Vultures, while Yongama Jantjies and Mihlali Nzimane responded with the two goals for the Academy.

Both teams played the ball on the ground at the beginning of the first half, using skillful footwork to move forward into the box. After a failed first attempt originating from a corner kick, Vultures executed a driving move from the centre of the field resulting in their first goal.

Southern Academy impact player Yongama Jantjies missed his first opportunity when his ball hit the woodwork while Mihlali Nzimane scored for Vultures. Both teams displayed great skills moving forward into the box, but failed to capitalise on their scoring opportunities during the rest of the first half. The score was 1-0 at break time, Vultures flying high.

Yongama Jantjies scored the first goal of the second half, equalising with a powerful strike just outside the box.

Nkosiphendule Faku missed a chance after his strike was blocked by Southern Academy goalkeeper Khanyisile Thinta.

George Vultures' left-wing back Oyama Bontiya scored the second goal putting his side in the lead 2-1 and it was left to Academy players to chase the game.

After consistent pressure on Vultures' back line and driving play on the wings, they received a corner kick that saw Mihlali Zimane netting the equalising goal.
