GEORGE NEWS - The Lawaaikamp soldiers Simunye FC missed out on the opportunity to qualify for the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League when they went down 4-1 against Infantry School in the semi-finals.
The game was played at the military base sports facility in Oudtshoorn on Saturday afternoon, 31 August.
The Oudtshoorn-based side scored their first goal in the first 15 minutes after playing the ball on the ground from the centre of the field.
Simunye replied with offensive play from the flanks with Shane Booysen and Sibongakonke Mntambo trying to get control.
However, they could not break through the solid defence of Infantry School, who were leading 1-0 into the break.
Infantry scored their second goal early in the second half making it 2-0, with Simunye failing to control the ball or convert their scoring opportunities.
Simunye's single goal was scored off a penalty awarded after a foul by Infantry School.
Overall they did not stand a chance against Infantry School, who netted two more great goals in the last minutes of the game to go through to the final, where they beat Peace Makers and were promoted to the ABC Motsepe League.
This followed after Safa Western Cape approved a request to add six more teams to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League for the upcoming 2024/25 season, increasing it from 18 to 24 with 12 teams in each stream.
