SOCCER NEWS - The Silver Stars FC produced a commanding second-half display to defeat log leaders Raul Stars FC 2-0 in a George Local Football Association Promotional League clash at Lawaaikamp Stadium on Sunday 19 July.
The victory keeps Silver Stars’ endeavours for a top-three finish firmly on track, while Raul Stars remain focused on securing a regional league play-off berth, despite their setback.
Raul Stars started brightly, enjoying early possession and creating promising attacks, but Silver Stars goalkeeper Babalo Lisana stood firm to deny them every opportunity.
Both teams displayed quality football during an evenly contested first half, but neither side could find the breakthrough as the teams went into the interval locked at 0-0.
Silver Stars emerged with renewed intensity after the break. Substitute Sifiso Lupiyana made an immediate impact, opening the scoring to give the hosts a deserved lead.
The momentum stayed with Silver Stars, and Achumile Njili doubled the advantage from a well-worked set-piece, beating goalkeeper Endinako Mdaka to seal the result.
Raul Stars created late opportunities, but failed to convert them, and Silver Stars came out victorious to claim maximum points.
Despite the defeat, Raul Stars are top of the standings on 72 points from 28 matches, with Silver Stars second on 61 points.
