Silver Stars lacklustre against Abahlali

GEORGE NEWS - The Silver Town-based side Silver Stars FC failed to collect points when they went down 2-1 in an entertaining Geolfa League encounter on Sunday afternoon, 11 February at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.

Ndyebo Ngcwangu and Siphelo Matiya scored the two goals for Abahlali FC, the side from Zone 9 in Thembalethu, while Yanga Khahlule scored the solitary goal for Silver Stars.

Silver Stars launched the game with their wingers playing the ball on the ground in an offensive move, putting the Abahlali players on the defence. Silver Stars were awarded a penalty early in the game after a foul inside the box, but the penalty shot by Silver Stars player Siphamandla Voko went straight to Abahlali's goalkeeper.

Abahlali took the match from Silver Stars playing more forward football. Ndyebo Ngcwangu of Abahlali FC scored the opening goal putting his side in the lead 1-0. Abahlali changed their game to be more aggressive, going straight into the box.

Siphelo Matiya of Abahlali FC scored the second goal to make it 2-0 in the first twenty minutes of the game.

Asiphe Nkatha of Silver Stars missed an opportunity when his ball went wide. Silver Stars continued their attacking play and Yanga Khahlule scored his first goal to make it 2-1 after an excellent cross from the right side of the field. The first 45 minutes ended 2-1, Abahlali in the lead.

The second half saw both teams fighting for more chances with Silver Stars taking the game from the Zone 9 team trying to equalise, but they were unsuccessful. Abahlali were defending their lead playing every ball in front into the 18-yard box.

Silver Stars missed two free kicks with both going over the goal. No further goals were scored in the second half and the game ended 2-1 with Abahlali collecting maximum points.
