GEORGE SOCCER NEWS - Thembalethu-based side Paris United got the sweet taste of victory when they sank United Brothers 5-2 on Saturday afternoon, 2 March, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium. The goals were scored by Athenkosi Waganda (2), Mandlenkosi Prusente, Odwa Peterson and Anele Pungwana for Paris United, while Amos Methuko and Bulelani Mfolozi scored for United Brothers. Paris United are now sitting in ninth position on the SAB League table after collecting six points, while United Brothers, the George Correctional Services team, failed to win their two games.
Paris United started the game looking dangerous on their wings, but the hard-working midfielder Anele "Jali" Pungwana missed a goal after a marvellous pass from Vuyisa Dyonas. United Brothers worked hard to come back in the centre of the field but could not keep up with their opponents' pace. Paris United made their early substitution, taking out Athule Damons and bringing in Athenkosi Waganda to add power and speed on the right side.
Waganda scored his first goal for Paris United with the support of Odwa Peterson on the left flank and Vuyisa Dyonas, putting Paris United in the lead. United Brothers midfielders Mfolozi Bulelani and Akhona Nokepeyi tried to challenge and fend off Paris United's dangerous attack. Paris United left winger Odwa Peterson was fouled in the box, leaving referee Lindile Gege no choice but to blow for a penalty. Peterson made no mistake and scored from the spot to make it 2-0. Paris United immediately launched another attack and Anele Pungwana netted another beautiful goal to make it 3-0.
Athenkosi Waganda made an impressive run into the box and managed to break the net to end the scintillating first half on 4-0. The second half started at a cautious pace with both sides using their wings. However, the match sprang to life in the 60th minute when United Brothers striker Khayelihle Vena fired over the cross bar from outside the box.

United Brothers hit back with a brilliant piece of inventive play, putting pressure on the Paris United defenders and managing to get a penalty, scored by Bulelani Mfolozi, to make it 4-1. Paris United responded very well and Prusente scored goal number five for Paris United. This was followed by a second goal for United Brothers, scored by Methuko Amos. The exciting SAB League game ended 5-2.
