SOCCER NEWS - Future Stars suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Zone 9 side Abahlali FC in an entertaining George Local Football Association (Geolfa) Promotional League clash last weekend.
With both teams aiming to improve their positions on the league table, the match began at a lively pace. Abahlali looked dangerous from the outset and the Future Stars responded well.
Both sides enjoyed periods of possession in an evenly contested first half, which ended goalless nevertheless.
Future Stars started the second half strongly, using the flanks effectively, but failing to convert several promising chances, particularly down the right wing.
The breakthrough came when substitute Ndyebo Ngcwangu made an immediate impact, beating goalkeeper Lelethu Khohlakala to give Abahlali a 1-0 lead. Future Stars pushed hard for an equaliser, sending numerous balls into the penalty area, but Abahlali's defence remained resolute.
Esona Mpongoshe sealed the victory with a well-taken second goal after breaking through the Future Stars' backline. Despite a determined late effort, Future Stars were unable to find a way past Abahlali's disciplined defence as the visitors claimed all three points with a deserved 2-0 victory.
Despite the setback, Future Stars remain second on the Geolfa Promotional League table with 57 points from 25 matches. Abahlali FC stays in the top eight with 38 points.
