A thrilling series of games was played between the George United u.15 team and Bergvliet High School from Cape Town.
An excellent first game saw Xolani Mandla have an outstanding game to lead his team to an impressive 3-2 victory, scoring a well-taken goal from inside his own half to open the scoring and provide a solid platform for the team to build on. This was Bergvliet's first loss of the year at this level in all competitions.
In the second game, Bergvliet was determined to make a point and came out playing strongly from the very first minute. George United struggled to cope and lost 5-1.
The u.19's team has also been busy with trips to Plettenberg Bay to play games against Witterdrift High School.
In a solid performance with some excellent passing and intelligent play, they won the match 1-0.
The u.18's had a friendly match at Roorivier Sports Fields against the visiting Western Cape Schools soccer team and in an end-to-end game with lots of action, it was the George United team that made the better opportunities, playing some excellent football. But luck was not on their side on the day and the opposition had the luck of the bounce, the final score line being 3-2 to the Western Cape side.
With the regular session soon to begin, the club's focus is now on the annual u.15 and u.17 Virgin Active Tournament which is the traditional curtain-raiser for George United Football Club's season.
