SOCCER NEWS - With seven games remaining, the Black Cats from Lawaaikamp are pushing each and every game to gain a promotional play-offs spot in the Western Cape Provincial League.
On the log table, Cats, with 46 points, are breathing down the necks of Knysna side La Liga FC, that is leading with 47 points with one game on hand.
On Saturday afternoon, 22 March, the Cats sank Simunye 3-1 in a regional league fixture at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
The Cats have now played 23 fixtures with 14 victories, four draws and five defeats, while Simunye has dropped to fourth position (41 points) after losing both games last weekend.
The clash saw both teams playing a balanced game and showing discipline in their ball-handling.
The opening goal was scored by Xolani Mandla (Black Cats). The Cats received a corner kick in the last minutes of the first half, but the Simunye goalkeeper blocked the ball inside the box and the first half ended 1-0, Black Cats leading.
The second half started with Simunye's players building from the centre of the field hunting for their equalising goal. Lihle Toto (Black Cats) scored the second goal with a powerful shot inside the box, making it 2-0.
Afika Tywetywe (Simunye) netted the only goal for his side with a great shot inside the box. Black Cats scored the final goal in the dying minutes of the game courtesy of Siphamandla Hlangabeza.
