SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - South Western Districts Cricket will again be the host for the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Academies week that will be hosted in Oudtshoorn from today until Wednesday 24 January.
The regional academies teams are being selected from the provincial academies within each franchise.
According to Thabang Moroe, the acting CEO of CSA, the aims of this tournament are to prepare players for possible provincial selection at one of the affiliates; to broaden the base of players available to provincial coaches; to develop the skills of coaches; and to foster collaboration within provincial academies.
"The Academy Week provides an important window for the future of South African cricket. Hence, CSA, its affiliates and associates have taken all the necessary steps to ensure these tournaments are well run and further enhance our world-renowned ability to organise top-class events," he said.
Two players from the SWD Academy, Bailey Aarons and Todd Walker, were included in the team of the Cobras Academy which will be coached by the former Protea Paul Adams.
The fixtures for the week are:
- First round of matches (Thursday – Saturday): Cobras vs Dolphins (REC Ground), Knights vs Titans (Bridgton) and Warriors vs Lions (Langenhoven Gymnasium).
- Second round of matches (Monday – Wednesday): Cobras vs Knighs (Langenhoven Gymnasium), Titans vs Lions (REC Ground), Dolphins vs Warriors (Bridgton).
- Sunday will be a rest day.
