CRICKET NEWS - The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Women's team will have a tough assignment this weekend when they take on Western Province at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn in a Cricket South Africa one-day cup match (tomorrow, Saturday 10 February) and a T20 Challenge match (Sunday 11 February).
The Badgers will be without Tazmin Brits and Mieke de Ridder, who are both on national duties with the Proteas in Australia, while all-rounder Micaela Andrews is still recovering from an injury.
Annerie Dercksen, who missed out on Proteas selection for the tour to Australia, is available and will be keen to prove a point.
Western Province are the log leaders in both formats and will pose a tough challenge for the local team.
SWD Cricket has also confirmed the appointment of Shiree Steyn as the new assistant coach of the Badgers. She was involved in the Western Province girls and women's structures. She joined the Badgers this week.
The squad of the Badgers for the weekend are: Janè Winster (captain), Mochelle May, Annerie Dercksen, Mariana Breedt, Julia Hoal, Koketso Manyaga (wicketkeeper), Haroline Rhodes, Asakhe Nyovane, Chantelle van Schoor, Khayakazi Mathe, Faith de Jonk and Cheyenne de Villiers.
