GEORGE NEWS - The annual George Madiba Road Race presented by Athletics SWD in conjunction with George Municipality will take place at 08:00 next week Saturday, 21 July. The race begins and ends at Unity Park at the top of York Street. Both the 10km and 21,1km races take place in the eastern part of George and are back and forth routes.
There are three races: a 10km road race, a 21,1km road race and a 3km fun run. Walkers and wheelchairs are welcome. The winner of the 21,1km will receive R1 500 and the 10km winner will receive R500.
The minimum age for the fun run is 9 years. Children may enter the fun run for free. Entry fees are R55 for the 10km and R65 for the 21,1km race.
Entries for the race can be done online at www.aswd.co.za and pre-entries can also be completed at Top Gear Sport and the Athletics SWD office. Pre-entries close on Wednesday 18 July at 12:00.
Late entries can be done on the day of the race from 06:45 until 07:20.
Mobile toilets and water points, as well as first-aid assistance, will be available on the routes.
The prize-giving will be done at the finish point at 11:15. Athletes are responsible to collect their own prize money. Medals will be handed out to all athletes who complete the races.
