GEORGE ATHLETICS NEWS - Carla du Plessis of Glenwood High in George became the leading high jumper in the girls u.18 age group in South Africa when she set a new Athletics SWD (ASWD) record at the ASWD talent identification meeting at the De Jager Sport Complex in Oudtshoorn.
Her height of 1,79m ranked her number one on the ASA performance list for 2019 in the u.18 age group and number 15 in the world on the IAAF world ranking list.
She improved from 1,72m at her first meeting of the season to 1,74m at the second, and her achievement in Oudtshoorn brings her to the brink of 1,80m. She has broken the ASWD record on two occasions this season.
Carla is coached by a former SA high jump champion, Christo Vrey, at Glenwood High. Vrey has produced a number of South Africa's top high jumpers over the years and he plays a major role in developing athletics at Glenwood High. Glenwood recently won the trophy for smaller high schools at the 2019 Top Ten High Schools meeting at Outeniqua High School.
