GEORGE NEWS - Two new councillors were welcomed at the Garden Route District Council during a special council meeting yesterday, 13 October.

DA Councillor Jobieth Hoogbaard replaces Jennifer Hartnick, and ANC Councillor Lisby Pieterse from Hessequa replaces Ivan Mangaliso. 

Both positions became available following resignations by the respective councillors who held a seat in council. Hoogbaard was inaugurated in person at the council chambers, while Pieterse was inaugurated virtually.

Municipal Manager Monde Stratu congratulated the new councillors, while Speaker Barnie Groenewald wished everybody well during the upcoming local government elections. "Keep it free and fair," he said. 

Mayor Memory Booysen said it is that time of the election year and the vibe and spirit is very positive. He asked everyone to maintain the positive spirit.
