SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - A night of political drama ended in the early hours of Sunday morning when the new ANC Regional Leadership for the Southern Cape was announced. The newly elected regional leadership will drive next year’s parliamentary and provincial elections.
The ANC Southern Cape Regional Conference took place on Friday and Saturday, 24 and 25 August, in the banquet hall of the George Civic Centre.
Jovan Bruinders from Mossel Bay was elected chairman of the region, Major Sokopo from George was re-elected as regional secretary and Beauty Stoffels from Kannaland as treasurer.
Bruinders said that the conference took a resolution to rename the region the Victor Molosi Region, after the slain Knysna ANC councillor and former deputy regional secretary who was gunned down outside his house in Concordia on Monday 23 July.
Bruinders thanked the region for placing its trust in him. “The ANC will do everything in its power to unite the region, branches and people of the Southern Cape.”
