Mthembu has reacted to this morning's announcement that the minister has been charged with fraud.
However, Mthembu says he’s speaking in his personal capacity.
The ANC has called on Gordhan to co-operate fully with the National Prosecuting Authority to bring this matter to finality as soon as possible.
The ANC's Khusela Sangoni says: “As the ANC we view this matter in a very serious light given the fact that it had a very detrimental effect on our economy. We are hoping that today’s announcement is going to bring us closer to uncovering the truth and brining this matter to finality.”
Meanwhile the Democratic Alliance (DA) agrees that Gordhan being charged is a disaster for the economy.
