Update
GEORGE NEWS - Former George Municipality Portfolio Councillor for Housing, Henry Jones, recently appeared in the George Regional Court on charges of theft and fraud.
This follows a disciplinary hearing at the end of May 2016 when he was booted from the local DA council.
At the hearing, Jones was found guilty of fraud and theft in connection with the illegal selling of subsidised plots and RDP houses in Rosedale.
On 1 June 2016, when Jones was informed of the outcome of his hearing, he was arrested by the police on the same charges.
Jones and his co-accused, Eglowh Johnson, were released the next day, 2 June, on bail of R5 000 each.
Jones will stand trial on 12 charges of fraud and theft. Johnson is accused of 10 of the 12 charges.
The case was postponed to 7 February as Jones has to appoint a new legal representative.
