NATIONAL NEWS - The Nelson Mandela Foundation and Google have asked YouTube creators to help celebrate the icon's legacy in video, the foundation said on Thursday.

YouTube Film Hack was a competition for video content creators in the country to produce "inspiring content" for YouTube using former president Nelson Mandela's legacy as the creative springboard, the NMF said in a statement.

"The YouTube Film Hack competition participants received a standard brief and a limited amount of time to create a YouTube campaign that will inspire South Africans across the country to follow in the footsteps of the much-loved Madiba.

"The competition submissions had to include a short YouTube film as well as an advertisement to drive traffic to the video."

The three top submissions are currently on YouTube. They are:

• Continuing Madiba's legacy is in our hands now;
• Living Mandela's legacy in South Africa today; and
• The "Long Walk to Freedom" depicted in Lego form.

The foundation would select a winner on Tuesday.
