GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The Garden Route District Municipality has issued a statement regarding an impact-based warning for veld fires, effective from 10 November to 11 November.
The affected areas include: Beaufort West, Bergrivier, Breede Valley, Cederberg, Hantam, Kamiesberg, Kannaland, Karoo Hoogland, Khai-Ma, Laingsburg, Langeberg, Matzikama, Nama Khoi, Prince Albert, Swellendam, and Witzenberg.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Namakwa district, Central and Little Karoo, Cape Winelands, West Coast, Swellendam, and the municipalities today, but only over the Hantam and Beaufort West municipalities.
Members of the public are warned to be vigilant, as warm temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds could result in the development of runaways and veld/bushfires. Fire teams, labour, and equipment will be placed on standby. At the first sign of smoke, every possible measure should be taken to bring the fire under control in the shortest possible time.
