NATIONAL NEWS - The murder suspect of the 20-year-old Chantelle and her baby Tasneem Ash, appeared in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mahwelereng on Thursday, 4 February for formal bail application.
Bosveld previously reported that the lifeless bodies of the mother and her baby were found by an employee in a lodge in Masodi village outside Mokopane on Thursday, 14 January.
According to police reports the woman and her child were together with an unknown man and had booked into the room on Tuesday, 12 January at around 19:00. “The trio were dropped off outside the gate of the lodge and the man booked a room for the night.
“He did not provide any personal information and told the receptionist that they will leave the next day (Wednesday, 13 January),” said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
The next morning someone went to clean the room and found the bodies of Chantelle and Tasneen, then alerted the police. Both victims were strangled to death.
After an intensive investigation, the 29-year-old suspect was located by the Brixton police and was brought to Mokopane for questioning. He was charged with two murders. Chantelle and Tasneem were laid to rest in the Zandfontein cemetery in Pretoria on Tuesday, 26 January.
The case was postponed to 9 February.
A No bail petition was recently launched by family members and to date has 11 245 signatures. Today in court Chantelle’s mother and aunt, Annie Ash and Bets Fouche, handed the petition over to the state prosecutor.
