NATIONAL NEWS - A teenage boy (13) died after shooting himself with his grandfather’s firearm in Border Road, Sea Park on Wednesday (February 21) afternoon.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said it is believed that when the teenager returned from school, he gained access to the steel cabinet in his grandfather’s room in which the firearm was kept.
“An inquest docket is being investigated,” she said.
An additional docket of failure to safeguard a firearm was also opened for investigation.
Licensed gun owners are urged to make sure that their firearms are stored according to the prescripts of the Firearm Act.
Weapons should be kept in a locked safe and the keys kept with the licensed owner.
