NATIONAL NEWS - The South African Revenue Service (Sars) has confiscated R29 million worth of tik in two busts at OR Tambo International Airport and says new baggage scanners and vigilant customs officials have helped them identify contraband much faster.

In the first bust, R18 million worth of tik was found in 18 packets hidden in three bags marked with green tape.

The bags which arrived in Johannesburg from Lagos yesterday were spotted on the carousel by customs officials.

Sars says the second shipment of 35kg of tik was detected by the police’s canine unit.
