NATIONAL NEWS - Police have launched a new training programme for recruits as part of a back-to-basics campaign aimed at boosting the fight against crime.

This is part of acting national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Khomotso Phahlane’s campaign aimed at enhancing service delivery and ensuring all officers are adequately trained to deal with day-to-day situations.

The SAPS announced the introduction of the Basic Training Learning Programme yesterday.

Experts welcomed the move, but cautioned against the neglect of theoretical or academic training.
