New-born baby found abandoned near prison

NATIONAL NEWS - A new-born baby boy was found abandoned in a veld in Potgieter Street near the Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria on Monday.

Best Care Ambulance Services spokesperson Xander Loubser said the infant’s umbilical cord was still freshly clamped when he was found.

“The umbilical clamp was done in hospital and this probably occurred after the mom and baby were discharged from hospital,” he said.

Loubser said paramedics were alerted by the CPF in the area.

The baby boy was about 48 hours old and was taken to Steve Biko academic hospital.
