Mayor slammed over R33 million Cape Town Cup 'wastage'
Four football teams were paid close to R29 million to participate in the Cape Town Cup.
NATIONAL NEWS - Four football teams were paid close to R29 million to participate in the Cape Town Cup.

At a special council meeting on Wednesday, the City of Cape Town revealed it spent more than R33 million on the two day event.

Opposition parties have accused the city of wasting public funds and the Auditor-General is investigating the matter.

International football clubs Crystal Palace and Sporting Lisbon received just over R12 million each to fly to Cape Town for the pre-season tournament.

Ajax Cape Town were paid R3.2 million and Pretoria based Supersport United received R1 million.
