NATIONAL NEWS - AfriForum will soon release a report on the June Knysna/Plettenberg Bay fires compiled by forensic investigator Dr David Klatzow. Klatzow said he is expecting the findings of his investigation into the fires to be released by 6 July.
He said the report will have "plenty of meat". In the meantime people should disregard the rumours that have been floating around about the cause of the fire. He declined to reveal more, but asked that the media wait for his final report.
The George Herald announced Klatzow's arrival on Wednesday 14 June in the Garden Route to commence his investigation into the cause or causes of the fires in the district.
Ilse Schoonraad Editor reported: "Klatzow told the SABC it is a complex matter and fires that may seem like arson, could actually be satellite fires originating from the same fire as burning debris blown by gale force winds could easily travel kilometres.
All evidence, eye witness reports and fire patterns must be weighed and analysed before drawing any conclusions, but Klatzow did not rule out arson. Klatzow has been tasked by AfriForum to investigate the fires."
Klatzow was also employed by Reshall Jimmy's family to investigate the cause of the fire that claimed the life of their brother in his burning Ford Kuga in December 2015 in Wilderness.
Klatzow is listed in the South Africa's Whose Who as a forensic scientist expert and lecturer at the College of Witwatersrand. He specialises in fires in buildings and mechanical equipment, but has operational experience as a fireman in fire fighting operations.
