NATIONAL NEWS - A group of armed men are sought after a brutal attack on Mauritz van den Heever (75) from Kameeldrift West outside Pretoria, who was attacked in his home just before midnight on Tuesday.
Van den Heever was hit with the assailants’ weapons and tied up while the three or four robbers searched his home, taking what they wanted.
The robbers helped themselves for hours and then packed Van den Heever’s bakkie with valuables such as TVs, computers, food and blankets.
Once they had helped themselves to Van den Heever’s belongings, they tried to leave but could not start his vehicle.
Van den Heever could hear as the robbers organised alternative transport and transferred his belongings to the arranged vehicle.
The injured Van den Heever was discovered by his wife at about 07:00, still tied up, and then taken to hospital. Van den Heever has since been released from hospital, but is still in severe pain, with injuries all over his body, especially on his face.
A case has been opened and investigations are underway, however, police have no leads currently.
Hercules CPF chairperson Nico van Vuuren said that this is the second incident of this nature in a week.
Just a few days before, a man was killed after he was stabbed multiple times and shot dead.
Van Vuuren said that this should act as a wake-up call that residents are not safe.
