Maimane is expected to descend on KwaZulu-Natal this weekend to woo support ahead of the party’s national conference next month.
Maimane’s charm offensive in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, at the weekend was met with cheers and tough service delivery questions from disgruntled residents who complained about poor services.
Maimane is likely to face a fierce contest from DA Gauteng leader John Moodey. Moodey told The Citizen yesterday he would stand.
“I am quite happy with the support I have,” said Moodey. “Gauteng is the strategic province and I have to take that into account.”
He said he would make an announcement in the next few days. A jovial and relaxed Maimane said he had no problem with anybody challenging him.
