NATIONAL NEWS - Two young brothers, the founders of Cape Town-based cryptocurrency investment platform, Africrypt, have vanished off the face of the earth, seemingly taking the bitcoins worth billions in their care with them.
Reports vary as to the exact value of the bitcoins, but the minimum value is set at $2.2-billion – more than 1-billion US dollars each in untraceable bitcoins.
Ameer and Raees Cajee told investors in April that the platform had been hacked, but have since disappeared.
Apparently, South African investigators will have difficulty starting a formal investigation, since cryptocurrency isn’t locally recognised as a legal financial product.
